Steve Phillips

Position: Secretary

Member since: Spring 2010

Bio Information: Steve was raised in a family that moved often, exposing him to many different subcultures in the USA.  He came of age in the Washington, DC area, where he was introduced to what he would call a thrilling spectrum of culture, and sat in high school with students from around the world.  In college, he lived with friends raised in the Middle East and in sub-Saharan Africa, whose perspectives he credits with expanding his horizons on global issues.  After earning a degree in theology, he lived in Cairo, Egypt in the mid-1990s and traveled throughout the Middle East.  Though his Arabic now is rusty at best, Steve still greatly enjoys all things Middle Eastern.  After returning to the United States, Steve ran an outdoor specialty retail business and earned his law degree in Denver, where he now works as a civil litigator.

Steve joined the 1010 Project with the goal of furthering sustainable, culturally-sensitive development and the hope of drawing on his international experiences and strong affection for community to do so.  His favorite aspect of the 1010 Project is its relational model of utilizing the best resources in different cultures to empower those in poverty.

A lifelong outdoorsman and Pittsburgh Steelers fan, Steve is news and foreign affairs junkie who loves keeping abreast of important events affecting the world.
