Needs/Beneficiaries: St. Luke’s Ministry is in Nyanza, the westernmost province of Kenya. Nyanza has the highest rates of poverty and HIV/AIDS in the country. In addition to its regular programs, St. Luke’s also provides food and other agricultural projects for the community.
Income-Generating Activities:
- Vegetable farming
- Posho mills (grinding maize into flour)
- Poultry
- Fish farming
- Dairy cows
Impacts: The 1010 Project funded an irrigation project at St Luke’s, allowing them to provide food for many members of the community. The school educates many students, half of them orphans.
Testimonial: Agriculture is the backbone of Kenya’s economy, and we want to train our orphans to have positive attitudes towards agriculture. – Joshua
